Quand ? La crise débute en août 2007 mais connaît une aggravation très importante après la faillite de Lehman Brothers à la mi-septembre 2008
Qui ? Ce sont à l’origine les ménages américains risqués sur le marché des prêts hypothécaires immobilier
Où ? La crise part des Etats-Unis puis a affecté les autres pays développés puis les pays émergents.
Comment ? La transmission a d’abord été financière (par la montée des risques et donc le refus des investisseurs et des banques de
continuer à prêter de l’argent) puis commerciale par le recul de la demande
Pourquoi ? Même s’il est encore trop tôt pour apporter des réponses précises, cette crise est avant tout une crise de confiance. Pendant plusieurs années les agents n’ont plus eu conscience du risque, ce qui les a incités à en prendre de plus en plus jusqu’au jour où les premières pertes sont apparues. A ce moment là, le risque est réapparu au grand jour et tout le monde a voulu retirer en même temps ces capitaux, précipitant l’effondrement des marchés. C’est le « paradoxe de la tranquillité » de Hyman Minsky ! La crise de confiance c’est muée en crise économique.
